Amish Friendship Bread



  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup Baking Free ™ gluten-free All Purpose Flour
  • 1/3 cup lukewarm Milk (100-110 degrees--warm in microwave)
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast


  • 2 cups Baking Free ™ gluten-free All Purpose Flour (248 g)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 apples--peeled, cored and chopped


Step 1
In a small bowl, combine ingredients for the starter. Place the bowl in a warm location. Wait for 10 minutes or until yeast becomes foamy,
Step 2
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare two 9X5 inch loaf pans by greasing and flouring. Combine together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Set this aside.
Step 3
In a large mixing bowl, mix together the activated starter, eggs, oil and vanilla. With the mixer on low, stir in the dry ingredients. Once combined, stir in the apples and nuts with a spoon. Divide batter between two prepared loaf pans.
Step 4
Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Cool in pan for about 10 minutes. Cool completely on racks. Makes 2 loaves.
